“Some people look for beautiful places, others make a place beautiful. We believe a place is much more than geographical coordinates. We make pilgrimages to places, remember the dead in places, gather for celebration in places. A place can matter to lots of people for different reasons; or to one person for only one. Places can evoke powerful feelings - feelings as individual as our own fingerprints.
For this reason we felt compelled to create MAP - a series about makers and the places that made them. Through maker’s eyes, we look at the places that shaped them, the places that stayed with them, and the place they make from. We’re interested in how someone makes a life, not just a living. It’s about individuals, not companies or organisations. The focus is on lifestyle and philosophy, and this is an online platform for makers to share their thoughts and inspiration. ”

Make A Place is a photo-journalism series about makers, the places they make in and the places that made them. These behind-the-scenes glimpses provide the chance to see what these makers fill their walls with and hear the stories behind their tools. It’s courageous to live a creative life and most makers have deeper reasons for doing what they do.
I am co-creator and founder of a photo-journalism series called 'Make a Place', which is about people and the places they make in. I founded the site with Remco Merbis. You can check out current stories on the site. So far we’ve collaborated with writers, photographer and makers in California, Bali, England and the Netherlands.
